Las Vegas, NV – The Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet is excited to announce that it has designated a new gallery area inside the Swap Meet, focusing on the evolution of continued retail success at our location. 1717: The History of Fantastic Retailchronicles the many facets of our building since it was built in the 1960’s. The Vegas Chamber, and other invited guests, will be joining us for the unveiling and a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 13, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.
Our extensive gallery will feature the grand plans of Mr. Ralph Harman, a local entrepreneur here in the southwest United States. The end of WWII uprooted Mr. Harman, which brought him to Las Vegas and subsequently, the Vegas Village Franchise to life.
The wall also details the ownership of 1717 by Continental Connectors and Margaret Elardi, both well known entities in Las Vegas History.
The building changed hands again in 1982 and became Fantastik Furniture.
In 1991, it was leased by four businessmen, Hal Present, Art Lamensdorf, Donald Weeks and Douglas Kays, and subsequently purchased by them in 1995. It then became the famous Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet. It is still owned and operated by the Kays, Lamensdorfs, and Present families.
Historic photographs and actual items used by Vegas Village, including a vintage shopping cart, will be on display. We are also excited to unveil a custom-made neon sign, which not only honors the significance of our building in Las Vegas’ rich history, but also serves as a reminder of the Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet’s ongoing support for the residents of our community, both now and in the future.
